What is Present Continuous Tense?

It is a tense which shows that we are in the middle of an action.

For Example: If Anna's train is late and he is calling Marvin from her phone then she will say

"Hello Marvin, This is Anna. I am at the station and I am waiting for the train. Oh, I can hear it. It is coming."

Form

The present continuous is the present tense of be + an ing form.

Other examples:

I am eating.

What is Past Continuous Tense?

The past continuous tense means that at a time in the past we were in the middle of an action.

We use the continuous with actions. We do not normally use it with state verbs. For states we use the past simple.

What is Present Perfect Continuous Tense?

We use the Present Perfect Continuous for an action over a period of time leading up to the present.

Example:

We have been waiting here for twenty minutes.

We are going to be late for the film.
